How I'm building my tech UGC business without giving up a cut of my deals
“UGC is about ad performance and creative execution — not follower count.”

Where I started
I got into UGC after realizing how many tech and digital platforms struggle to translate complex products into engaging, relatable videos. Coming from a background in media and tech compliance, I saw a gap for creators who can craft ad-ready video content that's both creative and conversion-focused.
Right now my content focuses on sleek SaaS walkthroughs, mobile app hooks, problem-and-fix narratives, and native, high-converting paid ad creative — crisp 4K screen recordings with clear voiceovers.
What was getting in the way
Before Plug, the business side meant juggling a messy web of spreadsheets, email threads, and manual notes to track deal stages, invoice statuses, and usage rights. The single most annoying part was tracking usage expiration dates — making sure a brand didn't keep running paid ad usage past their agreed 30- or 90-day window without renewing.
I've definitely had brands ghost on final invoice payments and quietly extend ad runs past their licensing period without permission. Staying on top of contract compliance manually took time away from actually creating content.
Why Plug
I said yes to Plug because it removes the artificial barriers that usually keep skilled creators from monetizing their work. On traditional platforms you're often locked out unless you already have 1,000+ followers — even though UGC is about ad performance and creative execution, not follower count. And pitching brands from scratch can feel like a black hole; Plug gave me immediate access to my first 10 brands to pitch, right out of the gate.
The flat-fee, zero-cut model was the other big factor. Most marketplaces take 10 to 20% of every deal and hold payouts in escrow. Keeping 100% of my rate and getting paid directly makes running a creator business far more sustainable.
Before Plug I looked at agency rosters and freelance marketplaces. What put me off was the lack of control and the heavy fees. Plug stood out because it solves the actual business side — instant pitching, clean packaging, direct payments, and verifiable usage certificates that protect both the creator and the brand.
The smart brand-match — it filters for brands I actually align with and tells me if I'm a strong fit, so I'm not hunting through irrelevant briefs.
The sheer volume of brands to pitch. There are so many opportunities you literally can't run out.
Don't sell yourself as just a creator — position yourself as a solution to the brand's ad problems. And just start; there's never a perfect time.
